ADAPTATION IN THE IMPOVERISHED CITY
When the world at large went into a world in lockdown, worlds changed.
I am not solely referring to the world as in our Mother Earth, nor without figurative inference; this, this is in-between.
What I am alluding to is that our own intrinsic worlds, along with those of our personally connected communities, faced particular challenges that promoted a surge in adaptation, even, a surrendering to adaptation.
Perpetually, the path of progress is presumed precarious.
Ubiquitously, it is uneasy and unkempt, poorly paved, pothole-peppered, a dermis of dust, whipping up rocks.
It is not unlike so many of Alberta’s reputable rural routes.
In regards to societal movements; though they are claimed to be considered, yet often they are factually overlooked, our younger generations too suffered seriously, and often silently.
They were not without some of the exact same challenges as the adults in their worlds; and they were also presented with particular barriers of their own to overcome.
The tolls taken on the physical, mental, and spiritual healths of our youth were intense, intersectional, impactful - and in many cases - invisible.
Not only were they so, but some of the effects are still alive and unwell in a number of our youth, to this very day; a trifecta of Long-COVID-symptoms.
Though some did and still may suffer in silence, nothing is absolute.
Some individuals found themselves, they made waves, they artistically acted out, they lived languishing out loud.
So much so, three particular Calgary teens felt it, fostered it, fought it, fought FOR it, framed it, and filmed it.
With a grant from Telus STORYHIVE and the professional mentorship of producer Marie-France Guerrette from the National Screen Institute; under the express guidance, mentoring, and tutelage of Executive Producer Kim Firmston, Adaptation In The Impoverished City was creatively conceived.
This brilliant piece of artistry is the inception, the impetus, the very inspiration for my creation of the PITBULL PO-VID POEMS.
Not only did this young crew of creatives manifest their very own documentary, but they even asked a humble Poet to contribute.
I was tasked to create 5 original pieces to poetically segue the 5 chapters of their documentary.
5 short stories of life during Lockdown, movements, if you will, from the perspectives of our younger generations, about our younger generations, for our younger generations - and for us all.
5 tiny tales told from the beginning to the…
Now, and beyond.
Elated, Flattered, Grateful, and Honoured, I am.
There it is.
Please watch the doc, reflect on your times during these times; and gain a world of insight into what our younger generations endured - and what some are still enduring.
Finally, I Thank You, every single one of you, who participated in the making of this wonderful work.
It was the first of its kind in my history of collaborations, and it shall forever remain a greatest growing experience, professionally, and personally.
Thank You & WarmestRegards,
