Lisa Bondt and Benjamin Andrew

Dear Calgary Arts Development,

It is our pleasure to write a letter of support for the nominee, Wakefield Brewster aka Da Lyrical Pitbull! Wake and his partner have become great friends of ours over the past few years, and we have had the opportunity to attend a number of Poetry and Spoken Word events. It became clear after attending a few of these events and interacting with Wakefield and other Artists the impact he has, not only in terms of his powerful, and captivating expression of word but also the support and encouragement he gives to others. In fact, his encouragement inspired me (Benjamin) to write my own poem and perform in front of a small crowd which gave me even more appreciation for his skill. He has a charming, caring heart and an infectious flow on the mic. His Poetry has rhythm and soul to it, with many strong messages that hit you with impact. Wakefield has a way of bringing those around him at these events closer together with a focus on each person, and their individuality of expression. His event hosting and interaction on the mic with other artists and the crowd is exciting, dynamic and full of love. There is a sense of true creative expression when Wakefield performs, and it draws you into the moment and outside of yourself. This creates a connection and appreciation for the art on display and we always leave these events as changed people.

Wakefield has a consistency of genuine character that is expressed fully when he speaks poetry. He has a wide range of expression that makes him a truly unique artist, like no one we have met before. His humble attitude and positive outlook on life, in addition to Serious Madd Flow on the mic is why we believe in the nomination of Wakefield Brewster aka Da Lyrical Pitbull to represent Calgary as the Poet Laureate.

Sincerely,

Lisa Bondt and Benjamin Andrew
