RE:

Wakefield Brewster,

aka: da lyrical pitbull

Poet, Spoken Word Artist,

Inspirational Speaker

To Whom It May Concern,

It has been my pleasure to work with Wakefield Brewster in events that bring youth and poetry together. When planning the first youth reading held by the Scream Youth Project, a program of Canada’s Scream Literary Festival, Wakefield was the first poet I wanted to invite to be the featured reader. Wakefield’s considerable talents as a poet I knew would delight and inspire the young audience. But when choosing poets for young audiences, poetic talent is only one consideration. I knew that in Wakefield I would find not only a talented voice, but a warm heart, a good ear, and an encouraging spirit. I was not wrong.

Since then, I have brought Wakefield into my classes at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute in Toronto. Wakefield spellbinds and enthralls his audiences. They find inspiration in his poetry that is both honest and uplifting. His work shows them how language is the most powerful tool they have.

As an educator, I am always looking for engaging poets who are doing something unique with language, who can excite students with the energy of the word. Wakefield brings this energy to young people like no other poet I know.

Sincerely,

Katherine Parrish
